According to Vedic astrology, a transit of SATURN, a planatory God is taking place from the Zodiacal sign of CANCER to LEO . The date of this is believed to be 16th of July 2007 . (As per some Indian Calendars it on the 5th of August 2007). It is believed that such transits have predictable and negative influence on human lives depending on their horoscope and destiny.

Below is an extract from the Blogs of  Sarajit Poddar VARAHAMIHIRA which enlighten us on the different types of Effects and remedies for each.

Very difficult to say who I am. Different people seen me in so many different ways. From my pespective, I am just a soul trapped inside the world of illusion!
The transit of Saturn in some of the houses in the natal horoscope is highly dreaded. During such unfavourable transits, the native faces tremendous odds in different aspects of life such as Career, finances, family etc. and Saturn makes the person remember god's name. Even though such transits are terrible materialistically, spiritually they are uplifting as Saturn cleans up the native from all past sins and give him chance to live a life with righteousness in later days.
However, the transits are not as bad for all the natives, since it depends on how badly Saturn is afflicting the horoscope. If Saturn happens to be a yogakaraka in the horoscope and involved in good yogas then the transits are not as bad and vice versa. This is also dependant on the Astakavarga strength of a sign. If in the sarvastakavarga, the number of dots are lesser than optimum and/ or in Saturn's astakavarga the dots are lesser than 4, the period becomes a tough nut to crack. Along with this, one must check out, whether it is a bad transit from all the three points, namely Moon, Lagna and the Arudha Lagna. If it happens to be bad transit from all these three points, then the time become too tiresome for the native from almost all areas in his life. It is also required to check the astakavarga of all planets, whether Saturn has contributed to any dots in the transiting sign in the those planet's astakavarga. If not, then the affairs ruled by the planet under consideration suffers due to such transit.

Today is Vishu.

Vishu is a unique festival celebrated in
Kerala and Keralites the world over.
It is not a religious festival, more
of a tradition.

Vishu is the commencement of the Kerala
NEW year and celebrated on the calandar day
rather than by the astrological chart.

This is normally on the 14th of April but
exceptionally a day before or after.

This year it is exceptional and it happens to
be on the 15th.

The hindu keralites who celebrate vishu
believe that what they see when they
wake up today will decide the prosperity
during the year. So they make sure they
see nice things by a tradition of Vishu Kani.

Tividale_Temple_NewYear_2007

I have been to this temple, situated not far from where we live,
a few times since I posted some pictures of the Kumbabhishekam.
I went for a dharshan again today, The New years Day 2007,
as I did last year, to start a new year in a new way!

Kalamandalam

It is not very often that we come across real opportunities to take a moment in our busy lives, pause a little and reflect on things we really live for. We carry on with our busy lives putting things off for a day when we can relax and enjoy the things we always wanted to do. For many people such a day never arrives.

Here is a golden opportunity for everyone who hopes to combine a few days of rest with an exquisite and almost spiritual experience you will never find elsewhere. It so reasonably prized in comparison to many commercially offered  fare from less authentic sources. I endorse this programme whole heartedly.

 Irayimman.jpg

During a recent visit to Kerala I had an opportunity to take an overnight train journey from our home town Aluva in Kerala to Chennai, the political capital and new IT Hub of Southern India. A journey I might have made umpteen times in the past. I remembered every station, every bridge and every junction on the way and even the time of passing since the schedule of the train had hardly changed over the years. In fact I could even recognize the rusted railway compartment I was travelling in,  despite its coat of several layers of paint on top of the rust and dust.

Forgotten merchants of dreams

Recently the sophisticated MP3 player in my car broke down. At first it looked like a disaster. I had to give up on my favorite music on my long drives. But like every disaster, it changed something so drastically and completely in my life. In fact I rediscovered our forgotten merchants of dreams.

It is always good to start something on a happy note!

I wanted to start this blog since several days but got more busy with developing this site.

Then yesterday something caught my attention, a news item about the place I was born and the famous Periyar river which struck a sad note! (more about it later). I thought I will start writing on that but felt sad that I had to start on something not only sad but quite disturbing.

As if god has sensed my feelings, I came across this interesting piece of news about a Christian communist (You know they are still around!) political leader making an offering to God in a Hindu temple.
